The Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has directed the Government Chief Whip, Hamson Denis Obua to write a warning letter to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa over her continued absenteeism from the Parliamentary plenary sittings.

This was after her absence on Thursday, August 31, 2023, in Parliament after being summoned on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, to provide a statement on the rising fuel prices as directed by the Speaker of Parliament.

Obua, in his response said that he wrote a letter to the minister notifying her about the directive from the Speaker of Parliament over the skyrocketing fuel prices.

“We wrote to them yesterday, the letters were all severed to the Minister of Energy, Minister of Education, Minister of Local Government and Minister of Workers and I have evidence to that effect,” Obua said.

All the three ministers from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development were absent during the Parliamentary plenary sittings on Thursday, to present the statement on the floor of Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament and her Deputy have over time expressed concern over the high level of absenteeism by legislators both in the committees and house despite several warnings.
