Drivers and Personal Assistants to Members of Parliament have petitioned the office of the Speaker of Parliament demanding for an improvement on their well fare.

On Wednesday, June 22, 2023, while chairing a special Parliamentary session to pay tribute to the fallen Judicial officer, Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, the Speaker of Parliament Anet Anita Among said that drivers and personal assistants to several legislators have petitioned her office over poor well fare attention.

“I have a petition on my desk where your drivers are complaining about you. You the Members of Parliament, you aren’t paying them. You aren’t paying your personal assistants and now you are trying to think Judiciary is the problem,” said Speaker Among.

Speaker Among added; “All of you are a problem. And you will not expect a judge to pick money from his or her pocket, and pay the driver, those are civil servants.”

Her statement stemmed from the appeal of some legislators who eulogized the fallen Justice and appealed to judicial leadership to weed corruption practice within the sector.

“I am not going to say there is corruption in the Judiciary because we have never got a report on it. I want to thank the Judiciary for upholding the common values of the Judiciary,” said Speaker Among.

The body of the late Lady Justice Arach-Amoko was taken to parliament to allow legislators pay their last tribute to her.
