Police has arrested six suspects for an alleged criminal trespass on a sugarcane plantation at Kataka Cable, Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District and are currently being held at Lugazi Central Police Station.

According to SP Hellen Butoto, the Spokesperson of Ssezibwa region, the suspects have been identified as Wasswa Segawa, Amos Khalifa, Yusuf Mutabazi, James Ganyana Hakim, Benya Mugaba and Tadeo Yudah.

Butoto said that they received information that a group of unknown persons had set up a camp in the sugarcane plantation which raised concerns about their intentions, suspecting that they might be armed and planning to commit an offence.

“In response, the OC operation visited the area and confirmed the presence of the suspects. A patrol vehicle was called from Lugazi for reinforcement, leading to the interception and arrest of six suspects,” Butoto said.

However, according to Butoto, subjected to interrogation, five suspects allegedly identified themselves as members of the Reserve Force of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) based in Kampala, while one individual identified as Yuda Tadeo claimed to be a Boda-Boda rider operating at Simple Stage Lugazi.

She further revealed that the suspects had been brought to the location by a person identified as Sunday Ggiga, who is in conflict with the Sugar Corporation of Uganda Lugazi (SCOUL-Lugazi).

According to Butoto, another trespass case against the Corporation is being investigated.
