Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School, Kisaasi branch located in a Kampala suburb has been put in the limelight for failing to take care of pupils while at school.

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, during the evening quick pick-up hours, a parent (female) driving a Forester Subaru was spotted knocking a pupil and driving off.

According to one of the victim, a female parent who was driving a Forester Subaru (Black in color) knocked and injured a pupil identified as Kyamugyina in primary five purple who was coming from getting drinking water from the dining hall.

“I was with my friend when a female parent who had come to pick her child driving in a Forester Subaru which was black in color knocked me and injured me on the left hand and leg yet the parent didn’t mind, but instead abused us by calling us careless children. We did not mark the number plate, but what we remember, it was UBL. However the cameras at the kitchen can help,” the victim disclosed.

One of Kyamugyina’s friends who revealed on condition of anonymity said that, the friend was fixed in between cars which led his left hand and leg to be hurt.

“Kyamugyina was coming from taking water and we were besides a car, then this parent came driving and fixed him in between her car and the other one he was next to, and then drove off,” Kyamugyina’s friend noted.

According to Kymugyina’s parent, at the time of picking up her child, the boy was found crying and in pain.

She added that on approaching the school administrators, nothing was done to counter the problem irrespective of the school having cameras.

“On reaching to pick my child, I found him crying and saying that he is in pain, saying that he had been fixed in between cars as he was coming from the dinning to get drinking water. When I approached the school administration, I was told that the cameras are faulty but they are trying to follow-up the issue,” she said.

However, on interviewing the Deputy Headteacher of the school in question, he declined to give details but said that they have contacted the parent to go to school.

“I am not in position to comment on the incident because there’s a Headteacher. However, we have called and invited the parent to school.

The victim’s parent slammed the claims by the school, saying that she called the school in the morning and she was told that the school CCTV cameras are out of use but they are following up on the issue.

At the time of the interview with the victim’s parent, Kyamugyina was undergoing medical check-ups to ascertain the magnitude of the injury.
