Several boda boda riders have been left severely injured after a drunk driver swerved off the road and rammed into them.

The incident happened on Monday morning, August 12, 2024, in Wandegeya, Kampala district, and it left several boda boda riders badly injured and with broken bones.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened due to drunk driving, and the motor vehicle that caused it was a Legacy motor car under registration number UBP 361G.

They added that the police and traffic officers at the Wandegeya roundabout arrested him immediately after the incident.

”The driver of the Legacy car was very drunk because when he was taken out of the car, he was even swaying and not standing steadily, which shows that he spent the whole night drinking alcohol up until morning,” the eyewitnesses revealed.

During an interview with journalists on August 12, 2024, one of the eyewitnesses identified as Muzafalu Kabuye revealed that the driver of the Legacy car lost control, which kept swerving off the road, and it rammed into the boda boda riders who were beside the road, leaving most of them in a critical condition with broken bones.

Kabuye further said that no one died at the scene; however, most of the injured were taken to Mulago Hospital for first aid and better treatment.

’’Thank God that the drunk driver was arrested immediately by traffic police and some police officers from Wandegeya that were controlling traffic because mob justice would have been done on him. However, it is good that no one died,’’ Kabuye disclosed.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Wandegeya police station, awaiting questioning from police.
