President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda is hosting H.E Macky Sall, the President of the Public of Senegal for a two-day official visit from Tuesday, July 18 to Wednesday July 19, 2023.
President Sall was welcomed at the Entebbe International Airport by the Uganda’s Foreign Minister Gen. Jeje Odongo in the afternoon of Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
President Museveni in company of former Prime Ministers of Uganda John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and Ruhakana Ruganda welcomed the visiting Senegalese President at State House, Entebbe where he will hold a two-day meeting with his counterpart.
The visit is intended to deepen bilateral relation between the two countries.
While at State House Entebbe, Gen. Jeje Odongo read a speech from the visiting President in which he condemned the foreign occupation of Africa.
H.E Sall thanked President Museveni for his good leadership and asserted that this visit was consistent to the traditional African hospitality.
The visiting head of State condemned acts of terrorism and the killing of innocent students in the Kasese attack and expressed his condolences to the community of Kasese and to Ugandans in general.
He expressed the need to continue the fight against terrorism across the continent.
He further thanked the President Museveni for Uganda’s long term contribution to the peace efforts to the continent.
The two presidents expressed concern that the level of bilateral cooperation was still low and that much has not been done since the bilateral cooperation agreement that was signed in 1997.
To this effect the presidents directed the responsible ministers to initiate and finalize negotiations on all outstanding issues of common interest in the political, economic, environmental tourism, agriculture, intelligence and security as well as natural resources with the emphasis on value addition and enhance co-operation in the oil and gas sector.
The two heads of State expressed issues especially focusing on the political and security situation on the continent while focusing on the evolution in Africa in general and in the Great Lakes region in particular.
The two presidents expressed the need to work for the Unity of Africa by eliminating Aglophone-Francophone division.
Regarding their global discussions the Presidents noted that the two countries being members of the African peace initiative, pledged their un-hovering support for a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and called for more constructive engagements and continued dialogue from both parties with the support of the international community.
They welcomed the broad consensus reached among the G-20 members for the African union to join the G-20 arrangement following advocacy by President Sall during his tenure as the Chairperson of African Union.
H.E Sall expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him with the delegation of Senegal during the state visit to Uganda.
