Police in Sembabule are on a manhunt for an 18-year-old male who attempted to murder his father in cold blood because he wanted to steal his father’s piece of land and money.

The incident, which happened on March 19, 2024, at around 5:00 a.m. in Mawogola parish, Sembabule district, involved a culprit identified as Najibu Muyingo, a resident of Nsense village in Mijwala subcounty, Sembabule district.

According to Isma Katongole, Muyingo’s younger brother, his elder brother woke him up late in the night and asked for a phone, saying he wanted to use the flash light to go outside, and on coming back, he went straight to their parents’ room and forcefully asked the father for his piece of land and money he had been paid after selling off his cows, or else kill him.

‘’My brother went to our parents’ room and aggressively told our father to give him the money he had been paid and his piece of land. Our parents refused and pleaded with him not to kill them,’’ Katongole narrated.

He further said that Muyingo got angry and hacked his father on his head and arm, but was later stopped by their uncle, identified as Swalik Katongole, who hit him on the head and even poured pepper into his eyes, and that he eventually ran away.

According to Dalausi Maalo, a local authority in Lwabana, most of the youth in their area have refused to work and resorted to theft as a way to acquire money.

Maalo added that drug use in their district has increased among the youth, hence the reason for committing such heinous crimes.

Maalo urged the suspect to hand himself to the police, as he’s being pursued and, once caught, his charges will be increased.

The victim was, however, admitted to Masaka Referral Hospital in critical condition.
