The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has said that the selection of the senior one students is slated to kick off in February 2024.

Janet Museveni made the announcement while releasing the 2023 Primary Leaving Examination results on Thursday, January 25, 2024, during a ceremony held at Nakasero State Lodge.

“The selection of the 2024 senior one students will be conducted between February 1st and 2nd. They are expected to commence their first term on February 19th, 2024.

Janet Museveni said that the male candidates declined in performance and their female counterparts were better in the 2023 PLE.

“From the Executive Director’s report, I observe that a number of candidates did not qualify for the PLE certificates (ungraded). The government is going to ensure that this trend is reversed. I have instructed the Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry to work out something to ensure that such pupils are given an opportunity to repeat Primary Seven in public schools so that we can support them,” she said.

A total of 749,254 candidates from 15,859 schools registered for PLE in 2023, compared to 832,654 in 2022.
