The government has released a list of priorities that it will vigorously implement in the next financial year, 2023-2024.
While delivering the State of the Nation Address at Kololo Independence Grounds on Wednesday, June 7th, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said peace and security are top government priorities in the next financial year 2023–24.
He listed peace and security of persons and property, effective implementation of the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, acquisition of rights of way, starting the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway, and finalizing the rehabilitation of the Meter Gauge Railway as government priorities.
According to the President, the government will also invest in small-scale solar-powered irrigation to address climate change, ensure food security, eliminate erratic agricultural production, construct transmission lines and power sub-stations, and maintain both tarmac and murram roads.
Other priorities include the development of industrial parks to ease manufacturing, support for medical schools and science-based research and development, expediting the development of the infrastructure for oil and gas production, capitalizing on the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) and Uganda Development Cooperation (UDC), and supporting information, communication, and technology (ICT) development.
The president also congratulated the legislators for successfully implementing government priorities in the second session of the 11th Parliament, which saw the anti-homosexuality law and the market act, among others, enacted.
Before adjourning the House, Speaker Annet Anita Among said they would introduce strict devices to monitor the attendance of legislators.
She adjourned the House until June 15, 2023, when the 2023–24 budget will be presented by the government.
