The Minister for Security, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, has distanced himself from claims that he was responsible for the transfer of the outgoing Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Steven Nsubuga Bewayo.
Muhwezi made the clarification while addressing the congregation via Zoom during a farewell party held at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality in honor of Nsubuga Bewayo their longstanding RDC. He emphasized that RDC appointments and transfers fall under the authority of the President.
”The transfer of RDCs is the President’s right and decision. I have no role or hand in the deployment or transfer of Resident District Commissioners,” said Maj. Gen. Muhwezi.
Nsubuga Bewayo, who has been transferred to Pakwach District, officially handed over the office to his deputy, Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, after serving in Rukungiri for four years and three months.
Acting RDC Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, who now heads the office alongside his assistants Mabel Mirembe Karazarwe and Karen Kagisha, commended Bewayo for his exemplary leadership.
“Nsubuga has been a resilient and dependable leader who mentored us well. His guidance will continue to shape how we serve the people,” Ongom said.
District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Christopher Wakyaya, also praised Bewayo’s service.
“He was a dedicated servant of the people, and his absence will be deeply felt within the security and leadership circles of the district,” Wakyaya said.
As Rukungiri District says goodbye to their long serving RDC Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, many people hope that the good work he started will continue to help local leaders and security. With Acting RDC Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom and his team now in charge, the district looks forward to more stability and progress under their leadership.
