Police detectives in Mityana district have embarked on a serious manhunt for three male inmates who escaped from Mityana government prison.

ASP Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, said the suspects escaped from prison on December 6, 2023, while they were being escorted to their wards after meals.

“Four individuals jumped over the fence and escaped. However, one was successfully re-arrested, and the remaining three managed to escape,” Kawala said.

She identified the inmates as Mfitumukiza Francis, 24 years, from Kisoro district, facing charges of murder and aggravated robbery, and Nasasira Gideon, 37 years old, from Rubanda district, charged with aggravated robbery.

“Another inmate is identified as Hakiza Joseph, 27 years old, from Kisoro district, facing charges of aggravated defilement,” Kawala said.

Kawala said a case of escape from lawful custody has been registered under Mityana CRB 1197, with ongoing search efforts. She urged anyone with information about the suspects to contact the police or report to the nearest police station.
