Security Forces, Civilians Recover Heads of Cattle in Kaabong District

The joint security forces have recovered 23 heads of cattle that were raided on January 9, 2024, around midnight in the Kalapata Kraals in Kaabong district.

This was revealed in a press statement by Mike Longole, the spokesperson for the Mt. Motoro region police, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. He stated that the cattle were recovered with the assistance people from Naontosi’s general area near the Kenyan border.

“We are glad to inform the general public that the 23 heads of cattle that were raided in Kalapata Kraals in Kaabong District were all recovered by joint security forces together with the help of people from the general areas of Naontosi towards the border with Kenya,” Longole said.

He further stated that the cattle raid was masterminded by elements from Turkana County, Kenya, who have continued to destabilize peace in the border areas. He assured the public of their commitments as joint security forces to protect them from external aggressors.

Longole also appreciated the security personnel deployed in Kalapata, Losera, Kamion, and Lotinyam for the good job they are doing. He stated that the safety of Wanahinchi and their property remains their major priority.

According to reports, a total of 265 guns and 2,900 rounds of ammunition were retrieved, with a notable 106 guns and 1,206 rounds of ammunition voluntarily surrendered during 42 Karacuna-based engagement meetings held across Karamoja.

The report highlighted concerning incidents of cattle rustling, accounting for 400 recorded cases involving 9,704 livestock. The Joint Security Forces managed to recover 7,322 of the raided livestock, returning them to their rightful owners, while continuing efforts to trace the remaining 2,382 livestock still missing.
