South Sudan President, Salva Kiir, is in Ethiopia on a one-day state visit to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Dr. Kiir arrived in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, on August 7th, 2023, and he is due to hold talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
“The one-day meeting seeks to strengthen the long-standing relations between the two nations,” said Barnaba Marial Benjamin, the South Sudan Minister for the Presidency.
Marial further told reporters in Juba that the two leaders will also discuss diplomatic relations, economic cooperation, and infrastructural development, among others.
South Sudan and neighboring Ethiopia have enjoyed good bilateral relations.
In August 2022, the two countries signed a security pact, agreeing to promote bilateral relations on various issues that do not compromise safety and security. The agreement was signed by senior security and law enforcement authorities from both countries.
