President Museveni Tasks Newly Promoted Maj. Gen. Otto to Monitor S.Sudan Peace Deal

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the Commander in Chief of the UPDF has promoted Brigadier General Richard Otto to the rank of Major General and tasked him to closely monitor South Sudan Peace Pack.

Maj. Gen Otto, a renown battle hardened military officer was recently appointed the Chairperson of Security Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) in South Sudan by President Museveni who is also the chairperson of all the guarantors in S.Sudan peace deal.

Maj. Otto’s key role is to monitor chapter 2 of the peace agreement which deals with peace and security.

Col. Deo Akiiki, the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson confirmed Otto’s promotion by the Commander in Chief.

Maj. Gen. Otto previously served in Somalia as a Uganda Contingent Commander and back home as 3rd Infantry Division commander respectively.

“The UPDF fraternity Congratulates the General officer for a well-deserved promotion and wish him good luck in his next assignment,” said Col. Akiiki.

There are three guarantors of peace deal in South Sudan under IGAD including Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan.
