Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed cabinet ministers except for the  Vice President and the Prime Cabinet Secretary, amidst mounting pressure from the current Kenyan demonstrations.

Ruto made the announcement on Thursday afternoon, July 11, 2024, at State House in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Head of State directed the principal secretaries within the respective ministries to take charge in the meantime.

“I have today, in line with the powers given to me, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet secretaries and Attorney General except the PCS and CS for Foreign Affairs, and the office of the DP is not affected in any way,” Ruto said.

“I took the decision upon reflecting and listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my cabinet and its achievements and challenges,” Ruto said.

Kenyans have continued to demonstrate against the controversial finance bill for 2024, which, to many, had a lot of oppressive taxes on different goods and services that many Kenyans considered unfair.

Amidst the heavy demonstrations, a massive number of demonstrators preferred to be called the Generation Z raided parliament, set part of it on fire, and promised to continue demonstrating if all their requests were not met.

Kenyan President William Ruto was forced to pronounce himself on the financial bill for2024 and had it dropped. He promised to listen to the demands of the demonstrators and work on them accordingly.
