A couple in Rukungiri District has been arrested following the murder of their 23-year-old neighbor, Sunday Innocent Akim.

The suspects, identified as Moses Mujuni and his wife Goodrah Mugabirwe, all residents of Ncwera Cell in Rweshama Parish, Bwambara Sub County  reportedly stabbed Akim  after a domestic altercation spiraled into fatal violence on May 31, 2025.

According to police reports, a dispute broke out between Mugabirwe and Akim’s wife, Harriet Tusiime. Mugabirwe, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, began verbally abusing Tusiime, prompting Akim to intervene.Elly 

The confrontation escalated when Mujuni joined in and fatally stabbed Akim in the neck using a knife allegedly handed to him by his wife.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing however both suspects were taken into custody at Rwenshama Police Station.

Akim’s body was released to his family for burial after postmortem.
