Rugby Cranes Defeat Uruguay in the Sevens Challenger Despite having a Red Card

The Rugby Cranes have defeated the host nation, Uruguay, 26:21 in the second match of the HSBC World Rugby 7s Challenger in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The match was played at 2:32 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

Tries from Nobert Okeny and Phillip Wokorach gave Cranes a 14-00 lead in the first half; however, Uruguay leveled with three minutes to play. Uganda took the lead again through Timothy Kisiga before Uruguay equalized again.

Philip Wokorach scored the match-winning try to send the Ugandans into wild celebrations.

However, Adrian Kasito received two yellow cards in the match and was sent off in the tenth minute with a red card for the last four minutes. The Uganda Men had their backs against the wall but managed to stay composed.

The team earlier won the first match against Germany 17:14 after a tiring 14:00 comeback, and Ugand led Pool C.

Uganda’s next game is against Papua New Guinea at 21:08 today.

The Challenger provides a promotion pathway to HSBC SVNS 2025, with the top four placed teams after three rounds securing their place in the new promotion and relegation play-off competition at the HSBC SVNS 2024 Grand Final in Madrid.
