Traffic police in Uganda have confirmed that a total of 84 people were killed in various road accidents within a period of one week.

Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson, said on Monday, September 4, 2023, that the incidents occurred between August 27 and September 2, 2023, in various parts of the country.

“The number of road crushes was 468, out of which 76 were fatal, 252 were serious, and 140 were minor,” said Kananura.

He added that among the fatal accidents registered, 38 were on boda-boda operatives.

Kananura noted that the major cause of accidents is mainly careless overtaking, followed by over speeding.

The police advised drivers to always pay attention to road signs and obey the rules of the road.
