Arinaitwe highlighted some of the critical issues regarding illegal poaching of endangered species like monkeys, pangolins, gorillas, crowned cranes, and warthogs for meat.

Additionally, Arinaitwe has been instrumental in transforming individuals from engaging in poaching to actively supporting wildlife protection. Alongside other reformed poachers, Arinaitwe actively participates in community activities aimed at conserving the environment and its inhabitants.

Joshua Masereka, who represented the Chief Warden of Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Park, attended the event to show support for the reformed poachers’ efforts. As Warden of Community Relations, Masereka highlighted some of the crucial roles these individuals play in safeguarding the park’s delicate ecosystem.

ASP Vicent Mbazira, the OC of Butogota Police, emphasized their commitment towards law enforcement and collaboration in combating wildlife crime and promoting sustainable practices.

With the different initiatives and commitment of the Reformed Poachers group, over 150 pangolins have been rescued by the group.

Additionally, the event served as a platform to showcase the diverse conservation initiatives undertaken by the reformed poachers. Projects such as vegetable cultivation, piggery, and goat farming have not only provided alternative livelihoods but also instilled a sense of pride and responsibility in the community members.

One of the primary objectives of the gathering was to prevent relapses into poaching activities. By offering viable economic alternatives and fostering a sense of environmental stewardship, the organizers aimed to break the cycle of illegal wildlife trade and ensure a harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife.
