There is a need for more public awareness campaigns on the implementation of climate change policies as a crucial role in engaging communities to foster a collective response to environmental challenges posed by climate change.

The campaigns are aimed at promoting sustainable development and a green economy to address climate change causes and impacts and integrate climate change issues into planning, decision-making, and investments.

In Uganda, more than half (56%) of the population has heard of climate change. Among those who are aware of climate change, 84% say it is making life in Uganda worse, while 78% believe that ordinary citizens can help curb climate change.

As a result, there is a need to push for more public awareness to understand the Ugandan climate policies that are crucial in mitigating climate change in a country.

One of the strategies is that community engagement campaigns help to raise awareness about climate change impacts, encouraging communities to adapt strategies that include urban green infrastructure planning and nature-based solutions, afforestation, and reforestation as adaptation opportunities.

Education and training programs in communities and schools for pupils, students, journalists, and community members to enhance the capacity to communicate climate-related issues effectively is equally important. This is essential for creating informed communities that can advocate for sustainable practices that will meet climate dynamics.

Additionally, youth and school involvement is vital in engaging young people in programs that target children, not only educating them but also empowering them to disseminate information within their families and communities; this will intensify the reach of climate awareness in a country.
