The Uganda U20 Women’s National Team, the Queen Cranes, have won their first game at the African Games 2023 in Ghana, defeating Ethiopia at Cape Coast Stadium.

The Queen Cranes defeated Ethiopia 2-0, with first-half goals from Captain Catherine Nagadya and left-back Docus Lwalisa on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Uganda made a flying start, taking the lead in the 10th minute after kickoff through Nagadya, who finished from close range after Nalukenge laid the ball to her. Lwalisa doubled Uganda’s advantage in the 29th minute with a free kick that went past Ethiopian goalkeeper Genet Ermiyas Iltro.

Coach Botes was forced to make a substitution in the 43rd minute after defender Shakirah Nankwanga was stretchered off, and Krusum Namutebi took her place.

In the second half, Ethiopia mounted several attacks and came close to winning, all in vain. Shamirah Nalugya, Immaculate Kizza, and Harima Kanyago came on later to replace Nagadya, Nalukenge, and Catherine Wujja, respectively.

Uganda drew 1-1 with Tanzania in the first game played on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Cape Coast Stadium.
