President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to camp in Oyam North to campaign for the ruling National Resistance Movement Party candidate, Junior Samuel Engola, in the ongoing by-election.
The electoral commission has designated July 6th as the date to elect the Member of Parliament to replace the former legislator and Labor Minister, Col. (Rtd.) Charles Engola Macodwogo.
Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip, said on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, that the President’s tour will without doubt drum up large support for the NRM candidate.
According to GCW Obua, the president will also receive a sizeable number of opposition converts to the ruling NRM party, including former MP Krispus Ayena Odongo, who recently denounced the UPC Party.
“The President’s coming to Oyam North today is going to boost our campaign. He is also expected to receive a number of conversions from UPC. He will pay a courtesy visit to the home of the late Charles Engola and have a meeting with his family,” said GCW Obua.
On Monday, NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi campaigned for Daniel Okello, the flag bearer for the National Unity Platform party in Oyam North.
Kyagulanyi confirmed his campaign activities were conducted in major villages without notable security interference, unlike before.
Four candidates, including NRM flag bearer Samuel Junior Engola, UPC Candidate Dr. Eunice Otuku, Daniel Okello (NUP), and Fred Newton Okello (FDC), are battling for the victory.
