President Museveni to Launch a Youth Program in Kabale District

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to launch a United Nations (UN) funded program for Christian youth during the National Youth day celebrations in Kabale district.

The celebrations will be held on August 12, 2023 at Kigezi High School lower playgrounds in Kabale Municipality.

The Assistant Commissioner for Youth and Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development-Mondo Kyateka said that, this year’s celebrations will center around the theme “Accelerating Recovery from Covid-19 and Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda: The Role of the Youths.”

Kyateka emphasized the crucial involvement of young people in overcoming pandemic challenge and advancing towards the 2030 development goals.

He was speaking during a preparatory meeting with the district and municipality authorities chaired by Nelson Nshangabasheija, the district LCV Chairperson who represented the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Godfrey Nyakahuma.

“This will see the launch of the program UN funded on the young people generally, and it will be launched by the President. There are also other programs that we are still trying to see whether we will be ready for them to launch or not, like that on Sexuality Education guidelines for the out-of-school youth,” Kyateka said.

During the meeting, Christopher Namara, the Kabale District Community Development Officer, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee reaffirmed that, entertainment groups and service providers have been engaged, adding that, several sub-committees have been established to ensure vibrant celebrations.

The celebration is expected to attract over 50,000 people and those set to be in the pavilion will be subjected to a Covid-19 test.
