President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will tour the Lango sub-region on wealth creation and the Parish Model Development (PDM) assessment on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
Faruk Kirunda, the special presidential assistant in charge of press and mobilization and the deputy presidential press secretary, made the president’s wealth creation tour public in a statement dated Monday, January 27, 2025.
According to the statement, President Museveni will involve several activities, including a visit to selected farms, launching the presidential zonal hub, and meeting local leaders and the media fraternity.
“The tour will conclude with a public rally where the President will engage with the community and outline ongoing government initiatives, particularly focused on wealth creation,” the statement read in part.
The President’s tour will focus on engaging with the community and outlining ongoing government initiatives, particularly on wealth creation to ensure they can join the money economy and improve their livelihoods.
In his messages, delivered to the previous regions of Teso, Bukedi, Bugisu, Sebei, and Busoga, President Museveni stressed the importance of shifting from traditional to commercial agriculture to boost food security and economic gains through crop production and livestock farming.
According to the recent results from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the total population of the Lango sub-region is 2,567,518, with a poverty rate of 26% and an unemployment rate of approximately 8%, which is slightly below the national average of 11.8%1.
This indicates that while poverty remains a concern, the employment situation in Lango is relatively better compared to other regions in Uganda.
President Museveni is positive that many households can now join the money economy with the support of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
