President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed his attendance at the second Russia-Africa Summit scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg on July 27–28, 2023.
Henry Okello-Oryem, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said the summit will discuss the oil and gas industry, securing fertilizer access, and promoting trade and investment, which are the main interests in all the bilateral cooperation with Moscow.
“These submissions will focus on strengthening cooperation between Russia and African states in politics, security, trade, science, IT, humanitarian support, education, culture, sports, youth, and the environment,” said Minister Orem.
He adds that the discussions will bring about greater opportunities for Russia and Uganda to utilize the potential for deeper cooperation.
“In my view, we will further discuss defense, energy cooperation, and the advancement of Ugandan agricultural products into their market, such as tea and coffee,” said Oryem.
The summit that was inaugurated in 2019 in Sochi, southern Russia, is expected to consider four declarations and a three-year Action Plan, which will be presented for consideration.
