PRESIDENT MUSEVENI SIGNS THE ANTI-HOMOSEXUALITY BILL 2023 INTO LAW

After being sent back to parliament for reconsideration, President Museveni finally signs the infamous anti-homosexuality bill into law today, May 29, 2023.

“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has executed his constitutional mandate as prescribed by Article 91 (3) (a) of the Constitution. The Anti-Homosexuality Act has received his approval, according to Speaker Anita Annet Among.

According to Speaker Among, the president’s decision to pass the anti-homosexuality measure into law is a response to the public’s outrage and defends the culture as well as the institution of the family.

“As the Ugandan Parliament, we have responded to the pleas of our people. In accordance with Uganda’s Constitution’s Article 31, we have laws in place to defend the sanctity of the family. In accordance with objectives 19 and 24 of the national objectives and guiding principles of state policy, we have stood firm to defend our culture and the aspirations of our people,” she continued.

The speaker has received support from a sizable portion of the August House in her praise of President Museveni for honoring their decision to legalize homosexuality in the nation. Additionally, she congratulated the parliamentarians for standing their ground in support of the interests of the Ugandan majority.

“I thank His Excellency, the president, for his steadfast action in the interest of Uganda. In the interest of our nation, I congratulate my colleagues, the Members of Parliament, for standing up to all the intimidation from bullies and apocalyptic conspiracy theorists, the speaker stated.

The speaker, who was ecstatic, kept talking about the bill that the president had signed into law, thanking Ugandans for their prayers and encouragements. According to her, the parliament will always defend and advance the interests of the people and has lived up to the Ugandan national anthem, “For God and My Country.”

According to this new law, if you are found guilty of indulging children under the age of 18 in same-sex relationships or other similar activities, you run the risk of receiving the death penalty. Anyone found guilty of the crime of attempted aggravated homosexuality will also face a 14-year prison sentence.
