Poor State of Romboka Bridge Worries Namayingo, Busia Business Community

The business community came out to complain of the loss of their goods in the process of crossing the bridge, yet it is the only convenient road that connects them to and from the business centers where they move to search for the market for their products to earn a living.

Residents in Namayingo and Busia districts have raised concerns about the deteriorating state of a wooden man-made Romboka bridge that connects the residents of Buswale sub-county in Namayingo, and Busia districts.

According to a boda boda rider in Buswale, identified as Bwire, the business community came out to complain of the loss of their goods in the process of crossing the bridge, yet it is the only convenient road that connects them to and from the business centers where they move to search for the market for their products to earn a living.

’’The residents of Buswale are worried about the bridge, which does not only put the lives of people at risk but also leaves their moto bikes on repair demand, which is expensive and time-demanding for the traders,’’ he said.

The C.N. Sugar Factory Limited came out to strongly support the residents, saying that the situation is traumatizing.

The sugar factory officials, however, pledged to render full support to the Namayingo district administrators in constructing a permanent bridge that links the districts to ease people’s movement and that of goods and services.

Additionally, the officials called for police deployment on the road so as to monitor the smuggling of goods from Kenya using the road as an escape route to the areas of storage, thereby promoting the movement of smuggled goods into the country.

The construction of the Romboka Bridge will ease the movement of people to and from business centers, hospitals, and schools, among others, thereby ensuring socio-economic development.
