Policeman who Shot Indian Money Lender Remanded to Luzira Prison

PC Ivan Wabwire a 30-year-old police officer attached to Central Police Station (CPS) who was accused of murdering Uttam Bhandari an Indian money lender on May 12, 2023, has on Thursday, July 27, 2023, been remanded to Luzira prison till August 24, 2023.

This is the second time Wabwire is being remanded to Luzira by Court. The first remand occurred on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, following the Buganda Road Magistrates Court charging him with murder.

A prosecution led by Ivan Kyazze informed Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Ronald Kayizzi that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

“Government is not ready because it hasn’t gathered enough evidence. We request for more time,” Kyazze prayed.

HW Ronald Kayizzi who was sitting in for the Chief Magistrate, Sarah Tusiime Basheija adjourned the case until August 24, 2023.

Prosecution asserts that Police Constable Ivan Wabwire, attached to CPS Kampala Police Barracks, with malice, unlawfully killed Uttam Bhandari by shooting at Raja Chambers along Parliamentary Avenue in Kampala.

On Sunday, May 14, 2023, Wabwire was arrested in a joint security team led by the Police of Busia that was commanded by DPC SP Didas Byaruhanga in conjunction with the Flying Squad Unit from Busia Municipality at customs at around 7:00am.
