Police have warned the National Unity Platform (NUP) party not to defy a directive of stopping the party’s nationwide mobilisation tours.

SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson while addressing journalists at the police Headquarters in Naguru said that, the police directive suspending the tours is still on and that anyone who defies it will face the law.

“They have boldly continued, that they will proceed with the second phase of the mobilization tours, but we must inform them that as police, we are prepared to deal with anyone who defies our directive,” Enanga said.

Enanga noted that, the police had received intelligence that NUP party had issued a statement for defying some of the police guidelines throughout the first phase of the mobilization tours in order to cause chaos all over and therefore, the police will not allow NUP to disrupt the stability of the country.

“We had evidence that they were determined to confront police to make ugly scenes that would lead to disruption of processions and cause risk to the public,” he said.

“They had also deployed their camera men to capture this ugly scene involving the police and the NUP supporters, that they will always get publicity out of that and indicate that they are going to proceed with their second phase,” Enanga noted.

Enanga said that, the police has a duty to protect public meetings and ensure Ugandans and visitors enjoy a safe and secure environment, adding that, they will not rest until those who want to use violence and lawlessness are brought to justice in this country.

Police’s directive comes after Bobi Wine’s utterances against President Museveni and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba while in Luwero during his nationwide mobilization tours.
