The Uganda Police Force is set to summon political leaders, and individuals witnessed protesting derailed roads in Kampala and Uganda at large during the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, which was held at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

During a press conference held at the headquarters in Naguru, the police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, stated that all political leaders and individuals who participated in the demonstration against poor roads would be prosecuted.

He added that the police are compiling all of the videos captured on CCTV cameras, and whoever is identified will be summoned and prosecuted in court.

This comes after the United Forces of Change, a political umbrella for Uganda’s opposition political parties, called a nationwide protest to express their dissatisfaction with the poor state of roads in Kampala and other parts of the country. The announcement was made during a joint press conference held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the FDC Katonga faction offices in Kampala.

The call for protests was made by opposition political leaders such as National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulani, the Katonga-based Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), former president Kizza Besigye and its interim president Erias Lukwago, and Winnie Kizza from the Alliance for National Transformation, among others.

During the joint conference, opposition leaders urged supporters to carry placards, fish, and banana stems and gather in various streets to protest Museveni’s misrule.
