Police in Kira Division have arrested 170 suspects in connection with a series of criminal activities tied to a notorious hotspot -Unique Bar, located in Kabawo, Buwate Zone, Kira Ward in Kira Municipality.
The raid was prompted by mounting public complaints that the establishment had become a home for illegal activities, including hosting explicit adult shows (“kimansulo”) and running brothels, both of which are prohibited under Ugandan law.
Luke Owoyesigire, Deputy Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the operation during the weekly security presser at the police headquarters at Naguru.
“The bar had become a gathering place for criminals, particularly those involved in recent robberies, where they would divide and spend their loot,” Owoyesigire said.
The criminal gang linked to Unique Bar is believed to be responsible for a chain of violent crimes in nearby Namugongo, which left two people dead and many others injured.
During the raid, authorities seized a range of narcotics, including marijuana, and substances suspected to be opium and cocaine. These items are currently undergoing forensic analysis to determine their exact nature.
“This operation is a critical step in dismantling the criminal network operating in Kira and surrounding areas,” Owoyesigire stated.
As the police continue to strengthen their efforts in cracking down on organized crime, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities to help ensure the safety and security of all residents.
