A 50-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Kizinga A, Kyamakanda Ward, in Rukungiri District on the morning of June 23, 2025.

The deceased, identified as Evalyne Mbabazi, had been reported missing the evening prior, around 8:00 PM.

Her body was discovered the following morning by Nkohe Justus, a local resident, who was en route to his garden when he stumbled upon the lifeless body near White Close, a road commonly referred to as ‘White Road’.

Isaac Bitwire, the Gomborora Internal Security Officer (GISO) for Buyanja Sub-county, indicated that initial investigations suggest the death may have been a homicide.

Authorities believe the motive could be linked to money Mbabazi had recently acquired from the sale of land belonging to her daughter, who is currently living abroad.

The body was later transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have also raised concerns that the crime might involve sexual violence, although investigations are still ongoing.

A suspect has been detained at Buyanja Police Station to assist with the inquiry.

As of now, police have not released an official statement on the incident.
