Police in Kabalagala are investigating an explosion that occurred in one of the saunas in Kabalagala, leaving three women nursing serious injuries.
The incident happened at around 8:30 pm on Sunday, 24th August 2025, at Buziga Country Resort in Upper Buziga, Makindye Division.
Addressing the press during the weekly security briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, 25th August 2025, Deputy Police Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the details of the victims and the ongoing investigations.
Police identified the injured as Hajjat Masitula, 69, who is also the Vice Chairperson LC1 of Katuso Cell; Zahara Nakawesi, 39; and Mamaram Aisha.
According to Owoyesigire, Hajjat Masitula suffered the most burns on the back, chest and lower body; Nakawesi sustained burns and a broken leg, and Aisha suffered multiple severe burns across her body.
Police said the victims were initially rushed to Kiruddu Hospital for emergency treatment. The Two were later referred to Nsambya and Mulago hospitals respectively, where they are receiving specialized care.
A team of investigators dispatched to the scene found extensive damage, with part of the sauna structure collapsing, walls developing deep cracks, and debris, including broken glass, scattered across the area.
“The preliminary findings indicate that the explosion inside the sauna was very big, however, the exact cause is yet to be established,” Owoyesigire stated.
He added that while no arrests have been made, statements have been recorded from witnesses. The area remains cordoned off, with public access restricted.
“We shall be informing the National Building Review Board to come on board and look on aspects of how the sauna was built, how the temperatures were being regulated, the items inside of the sauna per the standards,” Owoyesigire said.
Police remain in close assessment to establish the cause of the unfortunate incident.
