Police on Hunt for Ministry of Lands Driver over Careless Driving

The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan is hunting for a driver of Toyota Land Cruiser Registration Number UG 0302L, belonging to the Ministry of Lands for careless driving and inconsiderate use of the motor vehicle.

According to the police, the driver in question is said to have committed the crime on September 25, 2023, at 07:27am in Kyaliwajala where he overtook a queue of vehicles.

Preliminary findings indicate that, the driver whose name hasn’t yet been identified was stopped by the Traffic Police officer, but later drove off.

The Police placed charges on him for careless driving and inconsiderate use of motor vehicle under C/S 119 of the Traffic and Road Safety Act 2020.

The vehicle was blacklisted and the driver was summoned to Namugongo Police Station.

A similar incident happened on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, where the police arrested, charged and detained two government drivers, identified as Steven Bukenya who was driving a Hilux Registration Number UG 0120Q and Dan Sabiti, driving a Land Cruiser Registration Number UP 4911. The duo were captured driving recklessly in Uganda following a video recording from a whistle-blower.

In 2022, the Department of Traffic Police issued a warning to motorists particularly those from government institutions who break traffic regulations with impunity through unnecessary overtaking, unnecessarily using one-way and use of sirens.
