A police officer deployed to handle security at the 2025 Nyege Nyege Festival has drowned at Kalagala Falls in Kayunga District.

Police identified the deceased as Constable No. 80614 Alar Andrew, an officer attached to the Counter-Terrorism (CT) Unit. He was part of the security team assigned to the Kalagala Falls venue, one of the official festival sites.

According to preliminary reports, the circumstances under which the officer drowned remain unclear.

Witnesses alerted authorities shortly after he disappeared beneath the water.

The Marine Police Unit has since launched a search-and-recovery mission, deploying divers to look for his body.

Police is yet to give a statement on the matter.

However, investigations are underway to establish the cause of the officer’s death.
