Police Net Kikuube District Deputy LCV Chairperson for Extortion

The applicant, after discovering that he had been duped, reported a case to the police, leading to Opio’s arrest.

Police in Kikuube have arrested the deputy Local Council V (LCV) for extorting money from a job applicant.

Preliminary information indicates that the suspect identified as Vicent Opio was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2024, after being accused of extorting money from an applicant who was seeking a job.

According to the local authorities, the job applicant, identified as Derick Musabiire, had been seeking employment with the Kikuube local government, and as a result, Opio reportedly demanded a bribe of over ugx 1.5 million in exchange for a favor.

The authorities added that the applicant, after discovering that he had been duped, reported a case to the police, leading to Opio’s arrest.

A source within the police who revealed on condition of anonymity said that the LCV chairperson’s attempt to secure a bond for Opio remained futile.

Opio is currently detained at Kikuube Central Police Station, pending his appearance in court on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

This is the second similar incident following that of Zulia Nyakahara, the Secretary for Finance, who is also the Kikuube Town Council female Councillor, who was granted a police bond after she had been accused of extorting money from a job applicant.
