Authorities in Kampala have initiated a manhunt for thugs linked to an aggravated theft of cash worth shs 100 million from a local businessman at a Kawempe cash outlet on January 10, 2025.
According to Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Patrick Onyango, during the security briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, January 13, 2025, the victim, 49-year-old Tibamanya Fred, a resident of Kawanda in Wakiso district, had just withdrawn UGX 100 million from the Centenary Bank’s Kawempe branch when he was attacked.
The incident occurred as Tibamanya was driving his Toyota Harrier, registration number UBN 789W, along Bombo Road in Maganjo.
Reports indicate that he was attacked by a group of men on three motorcycles, armed with machetes.
While stuck in traffic, the assailants smashed the windows of his vehicle and seized a bag containing the cash and important documents.
After the attack, the thieves abandoned the bag near Kyadondo Hospital, taking only the cash while leaving behind land titles and other documents.
Police are actively investigating this audacious robbery and are working tirelessly to apprehend the culprits.
“The joint security agencies of police, the UPDF and intelligence agencies have kicked off efforts to track and arrest the suspects,” Onyango said.
