Police in Lwengo are investigating the circumstances under which a 28-year-old coffee trader in Nakatete village in Lwengo district was attacked and killed by unidentified thugs.
Enock serunjogi, a resident of Nakateete village in Kisekka sub county was attacked near a swamp along the Lwengo-Mbirizi highway on February 19,2025.
Preliminary reports show that Serunjogi had a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle that he usually rode, so on his way back home in the night on this unfortunate day, these unidentified assailants had already set a trap for him using a rope that made him trip off his motorcycle, and then they pounced on him to take it.
SP Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and revealed that investigations are underway.
SP Kasirye called upon any residents with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to aid the police in their investigations.
’’I urge the locals, coffee traders, and those who ride boda bodas to stop moving very late at night because it seems these thugs are mainly targeting them, especially,’’ Kasirye said.
According to one local leader, Ssalongo Benedict Luwaga, near Serunjogi’s dead corpse was a very detailed scuffle of broken twigs, which makes him believe that Serunjogi did try to fight for his life.
Serunjogi was discovered by two passersby who found him near the swamp who took him to a local hospital in Mbirizi to receive immediate medical attention.
However, upon arrival, the doctors confirmed that Serunjogi had passed on.
Luwaga expressed concern about the area becoming a dark spot increasingly dangerous for coffee traders and a dark spot for thieves.
Just a week prior, another coffee trader named Bosco Mambo was similarly attacked and robbed of his motorcycle and personal belongings leaving him hospitalized in a very critical condition.
