The Uganda Police has today November 15, 2024 stopped the National Unity Platform (NUP) country wide tour for violating traffic guidelines.

The NUP party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya expressed dissatisfaction in the letter signed by the police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke ordering the party to temporarily halt their nationwide tour.

It is alleged that on November 14 2024 while on their way to and from Buikwe district, the party president and his supporters held a procession in the road causing traffic and inconveniencing other road Users.

“The police alleges that we violated traffic guidelines but we all saw how on many occasions police disrupted us with tear gas and caused commotion,” Rubongoya said.

Rubongoya also promised that if the police continue to disrupt their program the party will take legal action.

“We are also planning to take legal action should the police continue disrupting our programs without justification, ” he added.

The NUP party deputy spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro said that the police allegations are just an excuse to stop them from continuing with the tour after the many crowds the party has been getting in the few districts they have moved to so far.

“You all saw what has been happening in the different districts where we have visited and the massive support that we got, that’s what they are scared of,” Mufumbiro said.

Mufumbiro also noted that for the districts where they were supposed to visit, they will still go there and tour.

“For our people of Nakasongola just know we are coming to you soon and we shall reach all the places that we intended to visit, “Mufumbiro added.
