The Uganda Police Force has dismissed two police officers from the security apparatus, and charged them to court for attempted murder.

This development was confirmed by SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson noting that they behaved in an inappropriate manner contrary to what the force stands for.

According to Enanga, DC Moses Bwiire attached to Kaliro District was arrested by the police in Busoga North, charged and taken to court.

He said that last week, Bwiire attempted to murder a fellow police officer, PC Tyson Kutoose.

“While at Namugongo Police Post in Kaliro, he forcefully tried to pick the keys of a police motorcycle to travel from Kaliro to Busia for personal reasons, yet it is used to carry out night patrols and visiting scene of crime,” Enanga said.

Enanga noted that, when he was denied the motorcycle, he picked up a hoe and hit Kutoose on the head causing severe pains.

“Later, he also picked a gun with 30 rounds and started shooting at the OC and other officers. However, none of the other officers were hurt,” he added.

Enanga said that, Police in Kaliro arrested Bwiire and charged him with two counts of attempted murder.

On the other hand, another officer in Bushenyi District identified as Corporal Ambrose Tumwehe, a 57-year-old attached Kanekye police post, was arrested for picking a gun and threatening a bar attendant identified as Caroline Nakyanzi in Kanekye Trading Center, if the bar maid didn’t open the door for him to enter.

“He later shot three bullets through the door but luckily no one was injured. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder,” Enanga said.

The police force has on a number of occasions given heavy punishment to officers who misuse guns, noting that, they are only supposed to be used when protecting citizens or in self-defense.
