Police have apprehended nine suspects in a successful crackdown on criminal gangs in Mukono district after an operation on March 2, 2025.
Authorities say the suspects were caught in a white Noah vehicle with registration number UBR 254E along Bombo Road.
Kituuma Rusoke, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and mentioned that one of the suspects in their custody after thorough interrogation revealed the location of a firearm used by the gang.
“The rifle was found in a sack along with a pair of military uniforms, a military jacket, and housebreaking tools,” Kituuma said.
Kituuma said that the rifle was recovered from Lukojjo village, Mpoma Parish, Nama sub-county, Mukono district, at the home of Wagube Ivan Stephen, also known as Ivan Musambwa.
This arrest and recovery are a significant milestone in the police’s efforts to combat crime in Mukono district. The police have been working tirelessly to address the rising concerns of aggravated robberies in the area, and this breakthrough is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
In December 2024, a group of eight thugs armed with pangas attacked homes in Katwe-Bukere village. A private security guard intervened, shooting and killing one of the robbers.
The police have been promoting community policing initiatives, such as the Mayumba Kumi model, which involves residents working closely with police to prevent crime.
