Police in Kampala have arrested five individuals following a violent confrontation between supporters of Mayor hopeful, Hon Ronald Balimwezo and fans of musician Mulwana Patrick aka ‘Alien Skin’.

Chaos broke out on Thursday, September 4, 2025, just outside the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices at Makerere-Kavule as Balimwezo’s supporters were marching to the party offices shortly after his nomination when they encountered the singer’s group.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the cause of the altercation remains unclear. However, tensions escalated shortly after Hon Balimwezo’s nomination, when his supporters caused a traffic jam while heading to the NUP headquarters.

Police responded swiftly, dispersing the chaos using tear gas and rubber bullets, restoring calm to the area. Onyango confirmed that the five individuals arrested include; Nyanzi Yasin, Kaweesi Tonny, Lukenge Sharif, Nsubuga James and Mwondha Mukisa.

“The situation was brought under control, but this incident highlights the need for vigilance and proactive engagement by security agencies to manage potential unrest during the forthcoming political activities,” Onyango said.

Security agencies have pledged to closely monitor political gatherings as campaigns heat up ahead of the upcoming elections. The public has been urged to maintain peace and remain vigilant to avoid further unrest during this sensitive period.
