Police have apprehended three suspects linked to a series of robberies occurring in the Lubigi swamp area along the Northern Bypass in Kampala.
The suspects identified as Niyonzima Richard (28), Kiiza David (42), and Ngobi Ali were nabbed in an intelligence-led operation conducted on Sentema Road on January 19, 2025.
The announcement was made by police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, January 20, 2025.
“The operation targeted individuals believed to be responsible for terrorizing residents and travelers along the bypass and its surrounding neighborhoods,” he said.
During the operation, Rusoke revealed that the law enforcement recovered a significant cache of stolen items, including 16 motorcycle number plates, 6 motorcycle side mirrors, padlocks, mobile phones, wallets, motorcycle logbooks, machetes, and money.
Rusoke urged road users to exercise caution when using the bypass during late hours, emphasizing that it remains a prime target for criminal activity.
He emphasized that these operations are part of an ongoing effort to curb crime in the area before thanking the local community council for their assistance in this operation, which played a crucial role in the arrests.
“This will not be a one-off. We will continue these efforts until safety is restored,” Rusoke said.
Investigations continue as authorities work to recover more stolen items and gather evidence to strengthen their case against the suspects.
