Robinah Nabbanja has urged female health workers at Mulago National Referral Hospital to embrace their profession with passion and resilience in order to strengthen healthcare service delivery in Uganda.
Speaking during celebrations to mark International Women’s Day in Kampala on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Nabbanja said female healthcare workers play a critical role as caregivers, mentors, and role models whose influence extends beyond hospital wards.
She noted that their dedication not only determines the quality of patient care but also shapes the professional culture of Uganda’s health sector.
“Love what you do because you are mentors, mothers, leaders, and role models. Your contribution to the mental health and well-being of our people cannot go unmatched,” Nabbanja said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the compassion and emotional support health workers provide often leave a lasting impression on patients long after treatment.
During the event, Lucy Nakyobe, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Treasury, called on senior female health professionals to mentor junior staff in order to strengthen healthcare delivery.
She also revealed that government is considering establishing a daycare centre at Mulago Hospital to support female healthcare workers balancing work and family responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Hanifa Kawooya praised the resilience and dedication of female health workers, highlighting teamwork as key to institutional success.
Similarly, Diana Atwine emphasised the importance of prioritising the mental health and well-being of female healthcare workers across the country.
