The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, urged Ugandans to continue embracing hard work, saying the NRM government will continue to deliver its manifesto to empower everyone.

PM Nabbanja was on Friday presiding over the launch of NRM Manifesto Week, which kicked off from May 12th to May 26th, 2023, during an event held at the Office of the Prime Minister.

The NRM manifesto week aims at providing accountability on the status of implementation, popularizing the manifesto achievements, identifying implementation challenges, and determining a way forward on how to address the challenges.

“Your hard work is paying off because several achievements have been realized.” “I also thank the office of the President for practically implementing the party manifestos,” she said.

She said peace and security have remained the core components upon which the various socio-economic activities are based.

PM Nabbanja also highlighted what NRM has so far scored in the running manifestos, including establishing Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCOs in each of the 10,594 parishes, adding that each parish has so far received Ugx50m.

She said the government has completed the construction of 20 zonal industrial hubs, and 14 of them have been equipped, adding that each facility has the capacity to skill 600 Ugandans per year for free, and so far, 2,000 youths have passed.

According to her, agriculture has contributed 4.3% to the GDP from 2.8%, which is attributed to the provision of agricultural inputs like coffee, tea, and cassava cutters, among others. The government has also been able to launch the first satellite last year, which is designed to foster technological advancement in the country, adding that a total of 17 oxygen plants were procured and installed in all the regional referral hospitals.

“A total of 109 Health Centers ll have been upgraded to Health Center III, and 11 Health Centers III have been upgraded to Health Center V. Completed and commissioned 102 Seed secondary schools under phase 1 of the U-Gift program. We delivered 50,000 laboratory materials to 157 secondary schools, and the government also located Ugx.954.9B to enhance salaries for scientists,” PM Nabbanja said.

She notes that a total of 163 sub-county headquarters have been connected to electricity, and a total of 1,129 sub-counties now have access to clean and safe water, as well as 286 urban centers.

“Land under irrigation has increased from 19,138 acres to 22,796 acres, against 3 million countrywide. 37 solar-powered irrigation demonstration sites have been constructed. More judicial officers have been recruited to reduce case backlogs. 48 judicial officers were promoted to grade one, bringing the total to 212. Appointed 16 justices of the high court. The government has enhanced the community policing model with neighborhood watch in 1403 sub-counties and also partnered with the DRC government to construct economic roads to promote regional trade,” she said.

Uganda has contributed 1,000 troops to the EAC regional peace initiative in the DRC.

Nabbanja said that in the implementation of the manifesto, they have faced some challenges, which include the following:

Delays in the acquisition of land for flagging programs across sectors and compensation

However, according to Nabbanja, the government is working on the acquisition of condors as a means to address the challenges.

Another challenge is corruption, which has undermined the efforts of the intended targets.

Nabbanja explained that, however, the government is intensifying the fight against corruption by strengthening its investigative systems within the various anti-corruption agencies.

Nabbanja explained that there is still much more work to do as they continue to serve the people.
