Philippine, Uganda Vow to Deepen Economic Ties

The President of Philippine, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has emphasized commitment to deepen bilateral ties with Uganda.

He made the remarks on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, while receiving credentials from the non-resident Ugandan Ambassador to the Philippines, Betty Bigombe Oyella, at Malacanang Palace.

“It’s a great pleasure for us to welcome you as the Ambassador from the Republic of Uganda to the Republic of the Philippines, and I hope that during the time you will be with us, you will be able to find many ways to strengthen the relationship between our two countries,” said Marcos Jr.

He says the bilateral partnership between the two countries will result in large economic success.

Amb. Bigombe said the Philippines and Uganda are on the same path of delivering economic development to their people, given their recent high growth witnessed in the past.

The Philippine embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, has administrative jurisdiction over Uganda, with Marie Charlotte Tang serving as the Philippines’ non-resident ambassador.

In 2022, the Philippines’ total trade with Uganda was valued at US$4.04 million.

The Philippine top exports to Uganda include electrical machinery and equipment and parts, sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles; plastics; and other made-up textile articles.

The main products that Uganda exported to the Philippines are dried legumes ($38.4k), coffee ($14.2k), and flavored water ($6.6k).
