Police at Kira Road Station have arrested Lenunu Rose Mary, the mother of the deceased children, on allegations of negligence.
The victims, identified as Otim Lisa Eliza (3) and Ochaka Chon (11 months), were reportedly locked inside the house while their mother attended to work. Upon her return, she found them missing, and their bodies were later discovered, swept away by floodwaters.
Neighbors revealed that this was not the first time the children had been left alone, prompting police intervention. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing.
A short clip of how heavy downpours ravaged some parts of Kampala Capital City on Wednesday.
The heavy downpour led to severe flooding in multiple parts of Kampala, causing motor accidents, sweeping away pedestrians, and damaging property. Five lives have been lost, and emergency response teams are working around the clock to assess the situation and assist affected residents.

“Our rescue teams remain on the ground, and we urge the public to take precautionary measures during heavy rains,” ASP Owoyesigyire stated.
In light of the recent tragedy, police have issued safety guidelines to minimize risks during the rainy season:
Avoid unnecessary movement during downpours to prevent accidents.
Boda boda riders should not attempt to cross flooded roads but instead wait for water levels to recede.
Parents and guardians must ensure the safety of children by securing homes and supervising them, especially during extreme weather conditions.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations, and further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
Authorities have extended their deepest condolences to the affected families and urge the public to remain vigilant as the rainy season intensifies.
