The Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges, and Discipline is set to look into defamatory statements made by the National Unity Platform’s Francis Zaake, also a Member of Parliament, against Juliet Kyinyamatama Suubi, the Rakai Woman Member of Parliament.

Abdu Katuntu, the chairperson of the committee and Member of Parliament representing Bugweri County, said that they will work out a plan on how to proceed and look for a way forward.

“Zaake’s matter was referred to the committee, and MPs are meeting to determine the way forward,” Katuntu said.

He advised individuals who are doubting the committee’s jurisdiction to probe matters that occurred outside of parliament to put aside their idleness and study the constitutional court judgment in a case brought by Zaake against the Attorney General.

“The constitutional court has already determined that case, and whoever is asking should go and read the Zaake judgment,” Katuntu said.

Zaake was sent to the committee for rules, privileges, and discipline after Juliet Kyinyamamta presented a video clip to parliament in which Zaake, while visiting Rakai on October 9, 2023, used vulgar language against her and other women members of Parliament.
