The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party welcomed into its ranks over 500 former supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) at an event held at the NRM headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala.
While addressing the new members on Sunday, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong urged them to uphold discipline and serve as examples to their former colleagues.
“I want you to be different as you come to NRM so that you show a good example to your friends in NUP and they also join,” Todwong said.
Todwong also encouraged the new members to attend the nomination ceremony of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
“Come in big numbers as we nominate our president, and after, I will introduce you to him. On Wednesday, September 24, he will meet all your leaders and support you in your groups,” Todwong added.
NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Mary Namayanja also addressed the gathering, encouraging Ugandan youth to rally behind President Museveni and benefit from ongoing government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).
“NRM is not a party for propaganda — you have come to the right party, and Mzee is still available. Some of you have already benefited from NRM programs, and more support will come under Museveni’s continued leadership,” Namayanja said.
Mukisa Arafat, a youth leader from Katanga Zone, publicly declared that many youth had previously supported NUP due to misleading propaganda.
“We have been supporting NUP, but we have seen the light, and we promise to support NRM and President Museveni in the coming elections,” Mukisa declared.
The event comes just days ahead of Museveni’s official nomination as the NRM presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections, in line with the Electoral Commission’s roadmap.
