The government, through the Ministry of Trade and Investment, has created more than 1,000 jobs at Kapeeka Industrial Park in Nakaseke district.
This was revealed to Internal Security Officers and senior police officers who had visited the park on an acquaintance tour on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, by Harriet Namara, who received the team on behalf of Kapeeka Industrial Park.
The ISO staff, including District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) and their deputies, are currently undertaking “Intermediate Course 11” at the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies, Entebbe.
According to Namara, the park is critical in the transformation of Uganda’s industrial sector and has continued to attract both local and foreign investors.
She attributed the fast growth of Kapeeka Industrial Park to abundant raw materials in Uganda.
Namara highlighted that the park is supported by its strategic location on the Kampala-Gulu highway, which has created easy access to major markets for its raw materials and transportation routes.
She notes that the park offers a range of incentives to investors, including access to utilities such as water and electricity, compounded with a conducive business regulatory environment.
Currently, Kapeeka Industrial Park has several factories, including food processing, textiles, and construction materials, among others, and has created several jobs and economic opportunities for local communities.
“We are providing jobs to over 1000 people who don’t need much qualification; only a national ID is needed to show that you’re a Ugandan. Our lowest paid person employed here gets Shs270, 000 a month as starting salary,” said Namara.
ACP Dr. Barbara Alungat, the Commandant of the Police Senior and Staff College Bawebajja, applauded the government of Uganda for spurring the industrial sector.
Kapeeka Industrial Park was established in 2008, and since then it has played a key role in promoting technology transfer and skills development in Uganda.
By hosting a diverse range of industries, the park has facilitated the exchange of knowledge and expertise, helping to build local capacity and enhance the country’s industrial capabilities.
